Island Cancer Center invested in equipment designed to maximize patient comfort for the best treatment experience.

The key piece of equipment for Radiation Therapy is a Medical Linear Accelerator, commonly called a LinAc. A LinAc creates and delivers high-energy radiation to treat cancer. 

The LinAc at Island Cancer Center was manufactured by Varian, the one of the industry leaders in flexible and efficient treatment delivery. 

The Varian Clinac® iX LinAc at Island Cancer Center cost approximately $1.5 million dollars, and is housed in a specially-constructed concrete treatment room to provide X-ray shielding. It measures 9 feet tall by nearly 15 feet long and weighs approximately 18,000 pounds.
